If you are located in Eastern North Carolina or have attended East Carolina University and are into the hair scene, chances are you've heard "Mecca did my hair" or the phrase "Slayed by Mecc."

 

Mecca Myers has been officially doing hair since the age of 16. She started in her hometown of Ahoskie, North Carolina doing African braiding styles, Senegalese twists, box braids, and Havana twists for her family. Once word got around about her styling skills her clientele eventually spread throughout the town across all demographics. Eventually, the self-taught stylist decided to advance her skills furthermore and obtained her license in Natural Hair Care.

 

Mecca is considered the jack-of-all trades as she is talented in all aspects related to beauty, such as; hair coloring, cutting, wig construction and customization, weave extensions, makeup artistry, and nail design.

While attending East Carolina University, she branded herself as Slayed By Mecc. In Greenville, North Carolina it did not take long for her name to spread by word-of-mouth after clients traveled around campus after being #SlayedBeMecc. From her freshman year up until her graduation in May of 2017 (with a Bachelor's of Science in Public Health) her clientele has doubled what is was starting off in Ahoskie ,with most of them being loyal and returning clients.

In September 2017, Mecca entered into the local hair show in Greenville called The  Slay Wars in which contestants had to come up with a space theme similar to The Fifth Element. Based off of the name, one could say it was meant to be as Mecca Myers won the competition featuring two other competitors. She was the only individual stylist that entered and won against her competitors who were from the local hair salons.

 

Mecca likes to help out in the community doing giveaways (back-to-school, Mother's Day, Black Friday, etc). She says that this [doing hair] is more than just a job and she likes to always find a way to give back to the community being that they helped her get her start and have been supporting her along the way. Mecca also notes that God has given her this talent and considers herself blessed to be able to do what she loves. When she's not doing hair, she loves to spend time with her family, friends, and her spunky Shih Tzu, Chance.
